2024 Song Writing Contest

Maine Songwriters Association is proud to announce the 14th annual MSA Songwriting Contest. This is a great opportunity for MSA members to show off their talents, culminating in a showcase performance of the top six finalists.

Here’s what you need to know:

  1. The contest is open to full paid members of Maine Songwriting Association; the winner from the previous year and MSA directors are ineligible. Membership must be paid at the time of entry.
  2. Each full paid member may submit one original song. Co-writers are allowed one entry only.
  3. Songs must be uploaded in MP3 format using the upload form on the MSA website. File name should contain the name of the song only. In order for our judges to be impartial, please do not include your name in the mp3 file name. Song lyrics are also uploaded through the MSA website.
  4. If you need help creating an MP3 of your song, contact info@mainesongwriters.org and we’ll try to assist.
  5. Deadline for entry is Saturday, August 10th, 2024.
  6. A panel of judges will select six finalists who will be announced by September 30th. Songs will be selected based on melody, lyrics, form/structure, impact and originality.
  7. A special showcase will be held on November 3rd, 2024, 4pm at Cadenza in Freeport, where 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be chosen by a panel of judges. Each finalist’s performance will be limited to one vocalist and one instrument.
  8. Prizes: All 6 finalists will be given one 1/2 day session (4hrs) in Forest Audio Studio in Belfast, ME with owner Steve Chiasson free of charge!  In addition there will be cash prizes for the top 3 performers at the live finals– a $300 cash prize for first place, a $200 cash prize for second place, and a $100 prize for third place.
  9. All musical genres will be considered – no instrumentals.
