Legere

Phoebe Legere is an internationally recognized composer, songwriter and performer, known for her college radio smash “Marilyn Monroe”, her full length musicals, operas and Pulitzer Prize-nominated “The Waterclown.” Vassar graduate, Juilliard-trained Phoebe Legere has collaborated with some of the most creative personalities of modern times. She opened for David Bowie on his National Tour. She has played with Joni Mitchell and Billy Joel, John Hartford and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She is a composer, writer, singer; an award winning folk-blues piano player, champion accordion player and down-home blues guitar player. Her singing is indescribable in its range and power. The New York Times compared her vocals to "Edith Piaf and Maria Callas."

NPR called Phoebe Legere “An American Original.” She has performed at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center as well as CBGB and the Pyramid, She has been featured on CBS, ABC, NBC, PBS and HBO and prime-time television around the world. The New York Times raved: “Legere plays the piano with enormous authority in a style that encompasses Chopin, blues, ragtime, bebop and beyond, and she brings to her vocal delivery a four-octave range, and an extraordinary palette of tonal color & meticulous phrasing.” Nonetheless, it was Legere’s phenomenal Cajun accordion playing that rocketed her to national attention in cult movies like Mondo New York and Toxic Avenger. Phoebe Legere is the author and illustrator of a children’s book called The Magic Accordion. Her new CD Squeeze Me features 12 Legere originals and three Cajun-Acadian classics.

Her 2017 CD Heart of Love shot to #18 on the Roots-Americana chart.
