The 2024 Song Contest is now closed for submissions. Entries had to be submitted by midnight Saturday, August 10th.   The annual song contest always draws a great set of songs from MSA members and this year's entries are spectacular!  The judges will have a hard time choosing the 6 finalists and alternates from the 61 great song entries this year.  The preliminary judging will take place soon and finalists will be announced early September.  Thank you to everyone who entered and...

with Jud Caswell, Award-Winning Singer/Songwriter, Owner/Engineer at Frog Hollow Studio. Topsham, ME May 11, 1-4pm, Unitarian Universalist Church, 1 Middle St., Brunswick, ME In this hands-on master class, Jud will help you develop the skills you need to use the perfectly-good gear you already have, the shrewdness to buy only the toys you really need to improve your sound, and the wisdom to know the difference.  With a focus on recording vocals and acoustic guitar, we'll discuss everything from mic choice and sound conditioning to mixing and mastering, and will have plenty of time to answer your specific questions. We would love a couple of volunteers to bring in a song and their own microphones to serve as a demonstration of techniques and choices - reach out to MSA, via info@mainesongwriters.org to let us know if you'd be willing to do that. Given the hands-on nature of the workshop registration will be limited. $25 General Ticket $22.50 for full MSA members...

The entry window for 13th annual Maine Songwriters’ Association song contest has closed for 2023. We had a record number of entries this year – 47. Three judges will be reviewing the entries in September and ranking each entry based on melody, lyrics, form, originality, and overall impact. Judges will not have access to the name of each songwriter to avoid bias. We hope to announce the finalists by September 30. We are still working on finding a venue for the finals to take place in November. Thanks to everyone who entered this year and we look forward to seeing everyone at the finals....

You may have missed it but you can still witness the whole show!  Yes, we successfully held our annual songwriting contest online!  Back when Gov Mills closed most if not all live music venues due to the threat of Covid-19, the MSA board met and discussed possible alternatives to our usual LIVE event.  We decided to carry on as usual and trust that the technology to hold an online event was viable.  And it was!   We sent out the notice announcing the contest, collected the entries, judged the songs and made our selection… just as we have always done.  Unfortunately we were not able to have a contest at the Frontier as we have donein the past.  But we did have a live event...
